Women's Lacrosse Spring Recap/Summer Update With Kelly Nangle

LFSN's Alan York had the chance to catch up with Liberty Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Kelly Nangle to recap the spring season, talk about the summer months and look ahead to the 2019-20 school year.

Liberty posted a program-record 14 wins in the spring and reached the ASUN Championship title game in its first year in the conference.

Spring 2019 Highlights
Team

  • Liberty posted a 5-1 record in ASUN regular season competition to earn the No. 2 seed for the ASUN Lacrosse Championship.
  • The Lady Flames defeated No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina 18-8 in the semifinals before losing a tight battle against No. 1 seed Jacksonville by a 20-18 score in the championship game.
  • Liberty led the nation in caused turnovers per game (15.79) for a second straight season. The Lady Flames were also among the top 20 teams in the country in ground balls per game (No. 8, 21.53), scoring margin (No. 13, 5.00), scoring defense (No. 14, 9.11), shots per game (No. 18, 33.63) and scoring offense (No. 20, 14.11).
  • The Lady Flames finished the year at No. 31 in the NCAA Women's Lacrosse RPI listing, their best mark to end a season in program history. Liberty achieved a program-best RPI ranking of No. 25 on April 24.
  • Liberty led all ASUN teams with 10 weekly award winners (offensive and defensive player of the week).

  • Lady Flames in the National Statistical Rankings 
    Brianna McCaffrey – No. 2 in caused turnovers per game (3.11) and No. 33 in ground balls per game (2.83)
    Carly White – No. 9 in free-position percentage (.650) and No. 10 in ground balls per game (3.26)
    Sarah Steenson – No. 31 in caused turnovers per game (1.74)
    Katherine Widrick – No. 34 in save percentage (.458)
    Kayla Foster – No. 45 in total assists (29)
