Lady Flames Announce 2019-20 WBB Non-Conference Slate

2019-20 Liberty Women's Basketball Schedule

Liberty announced its 2019-20 women's basketball non-conference schedule today, featuring eight games to be played inside the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Early Start
The Lady Flames will tip off the 2019-20 season with a Nov. 5 visit to Norfolk State. It will mark the earliest in the month of November Liberty has ever played a women's basketball game.

Home Sweet Home
Liberty will play a dozen home contests during the 30th and final season of competition at the Vines Center, including four non-conference tilts. The Lady Flames will play host to ETSU (Nov. 8), Chattanooga (Nov. 11), UNCG (Nov. 21) and East Carolina (Dec. 3) during the non-conference portion of their schedule.

It is somewhat fitting that Liberty will meet ETSU in its final home opener at the Vines Center. The Lady Flames hosted the Buccaneers in the first-ever women's basketball game at the facility on Dec. 7, 1990.

Chattanooga and East Carolina will both be visiting Lynchburg for the first time, while ECU will become the first American Athletic Conference squad to play at the Vines Center.

The Lady Flames faced ETSU, Chattanooga, UNCG and East Carolina on the road in 2018-19, with the four games decided by an average of 6.0 ppg.

Competing Against the Commonwealth
Liberty will play four in-state opponents this season, making visits to Norfolk State (Nov. 5), Virginia Tech (Nov. 15), James Madison (Nov. 24) and Hampton (Dec. 14).

Eight of the Lady Flames' first 10 games will be played within the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Liberty will only leave the state once during the season's first six weeks.

Tournament Time
The Lady Flames will compete in two in-season tournaments, including the Miami Thanksgiving Classic (Nov. 29-30 in Coral Gables, Fla.) and the Roo Holiday Classic (Dec. 20-21 in Kansas City, Mo.)

Liberty's first-ever visit to Miami will see the Lady Flames face Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 29 and Oregon State on Nov. 30.

For the second time in three years, the Lady Flames will wrap up pre-Christmas competition at UMKC's Roo Holiday Classic. Liberty will face two first-time opponents in Kansas City, including Bradley (Dec. 20) and the host Kangaroos (Dec. 21).

Challenging Slate
Liberty will match up against four opponents who reached postseason play in 2018-19. James Madison and Virginia Tech each competed in the Postseason WNIT.

Meanwhile, both of the Lady Flames' Miami Thanksgiving Classic opponents appeared in the postseason, including an NCAA berth for Oregon State and a Postseason WNIT appearance by Miami (Ohio).

Second Home in the Sunshine State
After playing eight games in Florida last season, Liberty has six games scheduled in the Sunshine State in 2019-20.

The Lady Flames will play a pair of contests at the Miami Thanksgiving Classic (Nov. 29-30) before returning to the state for previously announced ASUN matchups at FGCU (Jan. 6), Stetson (Jan. 25), North Florida (Jan. 27) and Jacksonville (Feb. 10).
