Flames men's tennis player Nicaise Muamba is competing in the singles main draw of the ATP Tour's Winnipeg National Bank Challenger.

The event runs from Monday-Sunday and is being held at the Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Muamba topped Mexico's Hans Hach Verdugo in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) on Tuesday. He will move on to face top-seeded Bernard Tomic of Australia on Wednesday in the round of 32. Tomic's career-high ranking was world No. 17 in 2016, and he has three career professional titles and 40 Grand Slam victories. He is currently ranked 96th in the world.

The strong field also includes France's Antoine Hoang (world No. 103), Canada's Brayden Schnur (world No. 112), Canada's Peter Polansky (world No. 139) and Israel's Dudi Sela (world No. 154) among others. 

Muamba, who hails from Laval, Quebec, Canada, enjoyed a highly successful first season with the Flames. His accomplishments included: ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Year, NCAA Singles Championship participant, ASUN All-Conference first team selection, Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State singles first team honoree and VaSID All-State doubles second team selection.
