Game On recently featured the unlikely story of Liberty sophomore pitcher Landon Riley.
After a stellar high school baseball career, Riley enrolled at Liberty as a student to pursue a degree in biomedical science. The Hillsborough, N.C., native may have thought his baseball career was over; however, the right-hander's Orange High School Coach had other ideas, putting Riley in touch with the Liberty baseball program.
Riley walked on to the squad in 2018 and went on to become one of the main components of the 43-21 ASUN Champion Liberty Flames bullpen in 2019. This season as a sophomore, he posted a 2-0 record with one save and a 3.82 ERA over 33 innings and 22 appearances. In one of his more memorable stints of the year, he pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, the longest outing of his career, helping Liberty to defeat Jacksonville 5-2 on May 25 and advance to the ASUN Baseball Championship game in their first season in the league.
