The lone Liberty athlete to compete on the fourth and final day of the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, sophomore Chelsea Igberaese placed 20th in the women's discus on a hot, sticky Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Making her NCAA national meet debut at the site of her school-record 179-6 mark from this year's Texas Relays, Igberaese reached 163-5 on her first of three discus attempts on Saturday. That stood up as the Georgia native's top mark of the afternoon.
Igberaese's 20th-place finish matches Mychelle Cumings' placement from 2013 as the best finish ever by a Liberty women's discus thrower at this meet. Igberaese also became the first ASUN Conference women's thrower ever to compete at this meet.
Liberty ends the meet with a program-record four All-Americans, including first-team honorees Azaria Kirwa (men's 10K) and Alejandro Perlaza Zapata (men's 400) and second-team performers Felix Kandie (men's steeplechase) and Denzel Pratt (men's javelin).
Up Next Freshman Makenzy Mizera will compete in the women's long jump and triple jump at the 2019 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, June 22 & 23 in Miramar, Fla.
