Liberty rising sophomore Maddie Hosler has been selected to compete in USA Field Hockey's 2019 Young Women's National Championship (YWNC), June 14-18.
Hosler was one of a program-record eight Liberty field hockey players to train at a USA Field Hockey High Performance Training Center in the early stage of the summer. She trained at the Pennsylvania site, one of eight training centers.
The YWNC will be held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa., and is an annual event featuring 144 elite female field hockey athletes, including for the most time the 2019 U.S. U-19 Women's National Team along with top collegiate and post-collegiate players.
Select athletes, including eight Lady Flames, tried out and trained at USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to earn a spot in the tournament that is the next step on the Olympic Development Pathway. These teams will face off for the prestigious title of national champions and for a chance to be selected to the 2020 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and U.S. Women's National Development Team, or a trial for the U.S. Women's National Team.
As a freshman in 2018, Hosler appeared in all 19 games for Liberty, making seven starts (started last six games of season). The Lititz, Pa., native played as both a midfielder and defender in her first season.
She made her first career start on Sept. 25 against Temple and scored her first career goal at home against Quinnipiac three days later on Sept. 28. Hosler is planning on majoring in accounting.
