Following a highly successful season on the course, in the classroom and the community, Liberty men's golfer Ervin Chang has been named the 2018-19 ASUN Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
The honor was announced during part of the ASUN Conference's annual awards banquet in Savannah, Ga., earlier this evening. At the same banquet, it was announced that Liberty swept the conference's Bill Bibb Trophy (Overall All-Sports), Jesse Fletcher Trophy (Men's All-Sports) and Sherman Day Trophy (Women's All-Sports Awards).
Chang was selected as the league's Male Student-Athlete of the Year, while the Female Student-Athlete of the Year award was presented to FGCU's Holly Fritz (women's soccer) and Lipscomb's Courtney Brenner (women's cross country/track & field).
Chang recently finished his junior season with a 71.71 stroke average, which ranks fourth-best in program history.
Chang was named to the ASUN Men's Golf All-Conference first team, and he was honored as the ASUN Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He led the team with eight top-10 finishes and played 19-of-35 rounds at par or better (54.3 percent) this season.
Yesterday, Chang and teammates Gabe Lench and Kieran Vincent were named to the 2019 PING All-Region East team. This marked the second year in a row Chang has been named to the PING All-Region squad.
Chang played a key role in Liberty making the program's second appearance in school history at the NCAA Men's Golf National Championship where the Flames finished tied for 20th place.
Liberty was consistently ranked inside the top 25 most of the spring season, including a program best ranking of No. 18 on March 30. Individually, Chang entered the national championship ranked No. 27 in the country.
