Liberty will open its 2019 season against James Madison on Sept. 1.

2019 Schedule

The Liberty field hockey team has released its upcoming fall 2019 schedule.

The Lady Flames will start their season against James Madison for a fifth straight year, taking on the Dukes on Sept. 1 in Lynchburg. Liberty will play a pair of exhibition contests at Duke (Aug. 17) and Wake Forest (date TBA) prior to taking on JMU.

Liberty's 17-game regular season slate features nine home matches, including four in a row to start the season. Following the season opener against James Madison, the Lady Flames will take on Richmond (Sept. 6), Lafayette (Sept. 8) and Yale (Sept. 14) in non-conference action at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.

This year's Liberty field hockey schedule is also loaded with some of the top teams in the country, including six opponents who finished last season ranked in the Top 25 of the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) DI National Coaches Poll. All six of those squads finished among the top 13 teams in the country, and five of those six squads finished in the top seven of the final NCAA Field Hockey RPI. Those six squads are: Defending national champion No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Connecticut, No. 6 Harvard, No. 12 Wake Forest (2018 national semifinalist) and No. 13 Virginia.

"I am very pleased with the spiritual, mental and physical growth that happened throughout the spring. As I look forward to next fall, I am eager for the season to unfold," said Liberty Field Hockey Head Coach Nikki Parsley-Blocker. "We have an excellent schedule that will allow us to play some of the top teams in the country outside of BIG EAST competition. Exciting times lay ahead for the Flames!"

The Lady Flames will be in their fourth season in the BIG EAST Conference in 2019. Liberty finished the 2018 campaign with a 13-6 mark, No. 16 national ranking and No. 15 position in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI. Liberty finished runner-up at the BIG EAST Championship for a third straight year in 2018.

The 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship will be contested for the first time ever at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium in Hamden, Conn., Nov 8 and 10. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.

Liberty's BIG EAST Conference opener will take place on Sept. 20 at Temple. The Lady Flames' other road games will be at Wake Forest (Sept. 22), Quinnipiac (Oct. 4), Longwood (Oct. 13), Georgetown (Oct. 18), North Carolina (Oct. 20) and Virginia (Oct. 28).

Liberty's BIG EAST home opener will be on Sept. 27 against the Villanova Wildcats. The remainder of the Lady Flames' home schedule includes contests against Old Dominion (Oct. 11), UConn (Oct. 26), Providence (Nov. 1) and Duke (Nov. 3).

Liberty field hockey has reached the NCAA Field Hockey Championship twice in program history (2013 and 2014). The Lady Flames are in search of their first BIG EAST title in school history, this year.
