Liberty Athletics celebrated another successful season during its eighth annual FLAMESPY Award show where Nicaise Muamba was named the Male Newcomer of the Year award winner.
The ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Year and an ASUN All-Conference first team honoree, Muamba finished with a 16-6 record in spring singles matches and a 26-12 overall singles record during his first season with the Flames. Muamba's 26 victories are the third most by a Flame in a single season in program history.
The Laval, Quebec, Canada native earned ASUN Player of the Week distinction a conference-best four times. Muamba posted a 15-6 mark at No. 1 singles, including a straight-sets victory over No. 21 Adria Soriano Barrera in Liberty's spring opener on Jan. 18.
Muamba has been national-ranked in singles six times spring, reaching as high as No. 99 in the nation in the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Tennis Rankings on Feb. 20. He is also the second player in program history to qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship, where the No. 119 ranked player in the country will start competition on May 20 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
