Liberty's Kyle Mitchell (Men's Field Athlete of the Week) and Taylen Langin (Women's Freshman of the Week) earned ASUN Conference weekly honors on Wednesday, thanks to standout performances at the Virginia Grand Prix.
Mitchell picked up his first ASUN weekly award, while Langin is now a four-time ASUN Women's Freshman of the Week, including two honors during the indoor season and two more outdoors.
A sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, Mitchell placed fifth in the Virginia Grand Prix men's shot put's invitational section, including second among collegiate entrants. His mark of 60-7.25 made him the first Flame ever to throw the shot put over 60 feet in back-to-back meets. Mitchell later hurled the discus a personal-best 162-3 for ninth place in the invitational section and third in the ASUN this season.
Langin cleared a personal-best 13-2.5 for fourth place in the women's pole vault's invitational section on Saturday. The native of Meridian, Idaho broke her own Liberty freshman record and climbed to No. 26 in the NCAA's East Region, including No. 5 among freshmen.
Both Mitchell and Langin are in action at today's Liberty Twilight Qualifier at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex, the Flames' final regular-season meet of the 2019 outdoor campaign.
