Flames Remain in 2nd Place after Day 2 at ASUN Championship

No. 21 Liberty shaved 10 shots off its first day score, but was still unable to keep the pace set by an experienced No. 14 ranked North Florida squad, which left the Flames in second place following Round 2 of the 2019 ASUN Men's Golf Championship.

Liberty carded a 1-under par 287 during its second time around Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club (par 72, 7,032 yards), while the conference's defending champions were four shots better on Monday with a 5-under par 283.

Entering tomorrow's final round, North Florida leads the eight-team field with a 4-under par 572 (289-283). The Flames are 12 shots back of the Ospreys, as Liberty is in second place with an overall 8-over par 584 (297-287).

The final round of the conference championship event gets underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The lead group of North Florida (572/-4), Liberty (582/+8) and Kennesaw State (598/+22) will be sent off the No. 1 tee (par 4, 445 yards) starting at 9:35 a.m.

Field Reflections:
• North Florida enters tomorrow's final looking for its second championship in a row and sixth in program history.
• The Ospreys have won four out of the last seven times the ASUN Men's Golf Championship has been held at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club (2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018).

• The tournament looks to be a two-team race with the Flames holding a 14-stroke lead over third-place Kennesaw State (598/22-over par) and a 15-shot edge over fourth place Jacksonville (599/23-over par).
• The course played more than three strokes less on Monday (74.56 scoring average) than it did during a blustery opening round on Sunday (77.58 scoring average).
• Despite the lower scores, only three teams in the field managed to break par on Monday: North Florida (5-under par 289), North Alabama (3-under par 285) and Liberty (1-under par 287).
• North Florida's Jordan Batchelor leads the 40-man field at 6-under par 138 (70-68) and holds a four-stroke lead over Lipscomb's Paul Swindell (2-under par 142/73-69) and Jacksonville's Thomas Thurloway (2-under par 142/70-72).
• Following a quadruple bogey on the par-4, No. 11 hole (409 yards), Batchelor closed his round with birdies on 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18, plus an eagle on the par-5, No. 14 hole to post a 4-under par 68 on Monday.
