No. 21 Liberty kept pace with No. 14 North Florida until the later part of Round 1 of the 2019 ASUN Men's Golf Championship, leaving the Flames in second place following play on Easter Sunday.

During their first competitive round at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club (par 72, 7,032 yards), the Flames carded a 9-over par 297.

Defending conference champion North Florida used its familiarity with the course to its advantage, allowing the Ospreys to finish Day 1 of the conference championship event atop the leaderboard following a 1-over par 289.

Round 2 gets underway later on Monday for the men's teams, as the event is being run simultaneous with the ASUN Women's Golf Championship.

The men's teams had the earlier flight on Sunday, while the women's team went off as part of the second wave. The tee times will be flipped for Monday, and Liberty will be sent off the No. 1 tee (par 4, 445 yards) starting at noon.

Round Recap – Liberty's Starting Five:
• Kieran Vincent: 5 even par 72 (72)
• Alexandre Fuchs: T6 1-over par 73 (73)
• No. 56 Gabe Lench: 9 2-over par 74 (74)

Field Reflections:
• North Florida and Liberty were within a few strokes of each other during most of the play on the front nine.
• The Ospreys, who have won this event five out of the last 11 years at this course, played the last nine holes at 1-over par.
• Liberty, who is playing in its first-ever ASUN Championship after 27 years in the Big South Conference, closed Sunday at 7-over par.
• A stiff wind throughout the day dried up the Legends Course quickly, leaving several greens that were previously soft due to recent rains to be challenging.
• No. 5, the par-5, 521 yard dogleg left, played the toughest at 1.15 strokes over par and saw 62.5 percent of the field post a bogey or worse.
• The Flames enter tomorrow's second round with a three-stroke lead over Kennesaw State (12-over par 300) and a seven-stroke lead over Jacksonville (16-over par 304).
• ASUN Men's Golfer or the Year and No. 22 ranked Phillip Knowles from North Florida, along with Jacksonville's Thomas Thurloway and North Florida's Jordan Batchelor, are tied atop the 40-player leaderboard following a 2-under par 70.

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• The Flames were paced by Kieran Vincent, who is in fifth place following an even par round of 72.
• The redshirt sophomore birdied two of his first four holes and four holes in total before closing with his fourth bogey on the day on the par-4, No. 18 hole (432 yards).
• Alexandre Fuchs is tied for sixth place following a 1-over par 73, a round that included four birdies.
• Gabe Lench, who is individually ranked No. 56 in the country, is in ninth place following a 2-over par 74.
• One of Lench's three birdies on the day was a chip-in birdie from the fringe at No. 15 (155 yards), a replica hole of No. 12 at the Augusta National Golf Club.
• Jonathan Yaun (T19 6-over par 78) and No. 28 Ervin Chang (T28 8-over par 80) round out Liberty's starting five in this tournament.
