Liberty's Nicaise Muamba, Josh Wilson and Chase Burton were recognized on Wednesday night by the conference prior to the beginning of the 2019 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship.

Muamba is the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Year in Liberty's first year in the conference and an ASUN All-Conference first team honoree. Wilson is the unanimous ASUN Freshman of the Year, an ASUN All-Conference first team recipient and an ASUN All-Freshmen team honoree.

The Flames led all ASUN teams with two players (Muamba and Wilson) on the ASUN All-Conference first team.

Finally, Burton is the ASUN Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an All-Academic team member.

Nicaise Muamba
Muamba is the first ASUN Player of the Year in school history and second conference player of the year in program history (Sam Matheson, Big South Player of the Year in 2016). The sophomore was a four-time ASUN Player of the Week selection this spring and held a position in the national singles rankings, put out by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), five times this spring. He reached as high as No. 99 in the nation, Feb. 20.

The Laval, Quebec, Canada native is also receiving first team all-conference accolades for the first time in his career. He is 16-5 in spring singles matches, including a 15-5 mark in the No. 1 position and 6-1 record in ASUN bouts. Muamba has won six straight matches coming into this week's ASUN Championship.

Muamba leads all Flames players with 26 overall singles victories this season and also has 17 doubles victories, 12 of which have come with Burton. Muamba and Burton have three ranked doubles triumphs, this spring.

Josh Wilson
Wilson becomes the first ASUN Freshman of the Year in program history and third conference freshman of the year in Flames history, joining Braen Aneiros (Big South, 2003) and Siim Tuus (Big South, 2010). He also earns first team all-conference distinction for the first time in his career.

The Reigate, United Kingdom, native is 16-6 in spring singles matches and 12-4 at the No. 2 position in the lineup. Wilson went 6-1 in ASUN regular-season singles contests and is 8-2 over his last 10 matches. He earned ASUN Player of the Week recognition back on Jan. 30.

Wilson is second on the team, behind only Muamba, with 22 overall singles victories during his rookie campaign. He also shares the team lead for doubles victories (17) with Muamba, with eight of those coming this spring (seven with freshman Ian Sturgill).

Chase Burton
Burton is Liberty's first-ever ASUN Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the third overall scholar-athlete of the year in Liberty men's tennis history. Burton joins Jorge Azuero and Louis Steyn, who were Big South Scholar-Athletes of the Year in 2003 and 2010. The Naples, Fla., native carries a 3.91 GPA as a business administration major.

The junior has won a total of 11 singles matches and 11 doubles matches, this spring. He is 6-3 at No. 3 singles and posted a 4-2 mark in ASUN singles matches. Academically, Burton is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and also made the Big South Presidential Honor Roll twice.
