Amber Bishop Named ASUN Player of the Week

ASUN Release

Following a standout performance last week, Liberty junior infielder Amber Bishop has been named ASUN Softball Player of the Week.

Hailing from Murrieta, Calif., Bishop receives her first career ASUN weekly honor. She was named Big South Player of the Week once each during both her freshman and sophomore seasons.

This is the second week in a row that Liberty has earned ASUN Player of the Week, as Jaclyn Amader was last week's player of the week. On March 4, Alexis Erich was the first Liberty player to be named ASUN Softball Player of the Week. Additionally, Liberty's Julia DiMartino has been voted ASUN Pitcher of the Week three times this year.

Last week, Bishop hit .500 (8-for-16) with one double, three homers, six RBI and five runs scored. She also had a .556 on base percentage and 1.125 slugging percentage.

During Tuesday's 2-0 win over Virginia, she batted 1-for-2 with a homer, one run scored and one RBI. On Wednesday at No. 14 James Madison, Bishop went 1-for-3 with a walk against All-American pitcher Megan Good.

She batted .600 (6-for-10) with three two-hit games in a series sweep of Stetson.

On Saturday, she went 2-for-4 in game one, hitting a walk-off homer to give Liberty the 5-3 win. It was Liberty's first game-winning walk-off homer since 2013. Bishop then batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Liberty's 6-0 win. On Sunday, her first inning solo homer got Liberty off and running, as she went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, two runs and two RBI.

Bishop leads the ASUN in both hits (54) and home runs (9). She is riding a nine-game hitting streak, during which she has hit .455 with three doubles, three homers, 11 RBI and nine runs scored.

Conference-leading Liberty (27-14, 9-3 ASUN) steps outside of conference play on Wednesday, playing at North Carolina (22-13, 11-4 ACC), with the game beginning at 6 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C. Liberty swept two games from the Tar Heels last year.
