"Great job by Vince and Will to step in today. We will continue to build on our focus and discipline. We are looking forward to our next match."

How It Happened

  • The Flames took all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in the victory.
  • In doubles, Vince Salas and Steve Mundt improved to 8-3 on the year with a victory over against George Markos and Cade Reasons by a 6-1 score. The doubles point was wrapped up by Liberty's Josh Wilson and Ian Sturgill in the No. 2 match with a 6-3 victory over the Lions' Andreas Hansen and Oscar Meslin.
  • Playing in a competitive match for the first time as a pairing, sophomore Nicaise Muamba and freshman William Barker of Liberty completed the singles sweep by winning 6-4 over Jason Pimenta and Gustavo Giraro on court one.
  • Playing in just his third singles match of the spring, Salas (No. 5) bumped the Flames' lead up to 2-0 by winning in straight sets against Reasons (6-2, 6-4). Barker, in his fifth singles appearance of the year, also provided a spark to the bottom of Liberty's lineup with a two-set win against Mar (6-1, 6-4) on court six.
  • With the Flames ahead 3-0, No. 101 Muamba sealed the match and made it 4-0 with his 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles against Pimenta. Liberty's lead grew to five (5-0) thanks to senior Eddie Gutierrez's 6-4, 6-4 win against Girao at No. 3 singles.
  • Mundt (No. 4) and Wilson (No. 2) also prevailed to bring the final score to 7-0. Mundt bested Hansen in two sets 6-2, 6-4, while Wilson required three sets to top Meslin (4-6, 6-3, 6-2).
  • The Liberty Flames now have two 7-0 sweeps in 2019. They also swept North Carolina A&T on Feb. 23.
  • Sunday's match was the first-ever meeting between Liberty and North Alabama.
