Following a highly successful Spring Break week, the Liberty men's golf program's national ranking has reached a program best at No. 18.
After a third-place showing at the General Hackler Championship and a runner-up finish at the Linger Longer Championship, last week, Liberty moved up three spots in the Golfstat national rankings.
The No. 18 national ranking is the highest in program history, besting two times when the Flames were ranked No. 21 in the country.
Following a 10th place finish at the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship, Liberty finished the 2011-12 season ranked No. 21 in the country. The Flames matched the No. 21 national ranking in last week's Golfstat national rankings.
Outside of Liberty's top-25 team ranking, the Flames have a pair of golfers individually ranked in the Golfstat top-100 rankings. Junior Ervin Chang is currently ranked No. 41, while senior Gabe Lench is ranked No. 73.
Liberty is one of two ASUN men's golf teams in the Golfstat national top-25 rankings, as they are also joined by No. 13 North Florida.
The Flames and the Ospreys have faced each during each of the team's first three events of the spring. North Florida bested Liberty at both the Sea Best Invitational, Feb. 4-5 (UNF 2nd Place/LU 4th Place) and the General Hackler Championship, March 11-12 (UNF 1st Place/LU 3rd place).
The Flames finished ahead of the Ospreys at the SunTrust Gator Invitational Feb. 16-17. Liberty (285-277-280-842/+2) finished in third place at the Florida-hosted event, four shots ahead of fourth place North Florida (277-287-282-846/+6).
The two teams will not see each other again until the ASUN Men's Golf Championship, which will be hosted at The Legends Club in Braselton, Ga., April 21-23.
Back on the Course – Liberty's Next Event: • 2019 Mason Rudolph Championship (April 5-7) • Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.) • Hosted by Vanderbilt • Par 71, 7,100 yards
