No. 21 Liberty Remains in 2nd Place at Linger Longer Invitational

The sophomore carded the third-lowest round of the day on Saturday, firing a 6-under par 66 to move into a three-way tie for first place heading into tomorrow's round. Overall, Fuchs enters the final round with an aggregate 7-under par 137 (71-66).

As a team, the Flames (282-286) find themselves in a three-way tie for second place, along with No. 15 Georgia (285-283) and No. 25 Louisville (278-290). The trio of teams are four shots off the overall lead with their identical team scores of 8-under par 568.

No. 24 Alabama had its way with The Landing at Reynolds Lake Oconee course (par 72, 6,991 yards) on Saturday. The Crimson Tide carded a 12-under par 276 to soar to the top of the leaderboard as they enter the final round with an overall 12-under par (288-276).

Liberty, Alabama and Georgia will be the last groups off the No. 1 tee (par 4, 414 yards), starting tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the final round of the 2019 Linger Longer Invitational.

Round Recap – Liberty's Starting Five:

Field Reflections:
• Alabama enters tomorrow's final round looking for its sixth title at this event co-hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer.
• Alabama is the defending champion and has won the title five out of the last eight years (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018).
• Six of the 15 teams in the field finished the middle round of this tournament with an under-par score, paced by Alabama's 12-under par 276.
• Four of the five top-25 ranked teams in the 15-team field finished day two bunched up atop the leaderboard (No. 24 Alabama – 12; No. 15 Georgia -8; No. 21 Liberty -8, No. 25 Louisville -8).
• Despite a 13-shot improvement over round one, No. 22 Tennessee remains near the bottom of the leaderboard, tied for 12th place with an 11-over par 587 (300-287).
• Liberty's Alexandre Fuchs (71-66) shares first place with Penn State's JD Hudges (72-65) and Alabama's Josh Sedeno (70-67), with the trio of golfers entering the final round with a 7-under par 137.

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• The tournament is Liberty's second of three regular season events where the Flames will only play 18 holes per day during a 54-hole event.
• Liberty continues to lead the 15-team field in par-5 scoring, posting an average score of 4.68 on the par-5 holes through 36 holes (13-under par).
• Alexandre Fuchs' second-round 6-under par 66 matches his 6-under par 66 during the second round of the Intercollegiate at The Grove on Oct. 8, 2018.
• Fuchs would go on to share medalist honors with fellow teammate Gabe Lench at Intercollegiate at The Grove, helping Liberty to claim the event's team title.
• On Saturday, Fuchs posted an eagle on the par-5, No. 2 hole (490 yards) and recorded birdies on six holes over an eight-hole stretch late in the round.
• Ervin Chang, who individual ranks No. 52 in the country, is tied for eighth place with a 4-under par 140 (69-71).
• Chang has posted an under-par score during his last five rounds, all of which have been played this week (first three at the General Hackler Championship on Monday and Tuesday earlier this week).
• Gabe Lench, who individually ranks No. 60 in the country, rounds out Liberty's top golfers as the senior is tied for 25th place with a 1-over par 145 (73-72).
