Weather Report
Saturday's forecast for Charleston calls for cloudy skies, a high in the mid 60s and a steady wind from the north.

Charlotte could see scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds on Friday with a high approaching 70 degrees. Saturday's weather is expected to be calmer but the temperature may be stuck in the 50s for most of the day.

Scouting the Competition
The CSU Spring Break Invitational will be a relatively small meet featuring only four NCAA Division I teams (Bryant, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston and Liberty) among its entrants.

By contrast, the 49er Classic will include 54 teams and approximately 1,750 entrants.

Favored Facility
Liberty wrapped up its first-ever "Double Triple" of Big South Conference titles in all six cross country/track & field championships within a single school year at Settle Track during the 2010 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships (April 15-17, 2010).

More recently, Liberty swept the men's and women's team titles at the 2017 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 10-12, 2017) hosted by CSU.

A Look Back at Last Year
Liberty won eight events at the 2018 CSU Spring Break Invitational with six of the event victories coming from throwers.

The Flames' event champions included Paige Demetriades (women's javelin), Caleb Hart (men's javelin), Chelsea Igberaese (women's discus), Dasiana Larson (women's hammer), Maggie McDermott (women's 400), William Partridge (men's shot put and hammer) and Branson Rolle (men's 400 hurdles).

Demetriades made a successful Liberty debut with her 156-4 javelin throw which punched her NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round ticket.

Javelin Squad
Liberty's talented squad of javelin throwers will get to open their season at the CSU Spring Break Invitational, a venue where they have thrived in recent years.

Senior Denzel Pratt's javelin personal best of 232-0, the Bahamas national record, was achieved during the 2017 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships at CSU. Last season, he advanced to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, placing 17th.

Junior teammate Caleb Hart won the 2018 CSU Spring Break Invitational men's javelin competition with a personal-best 201-0 heave.

As mentioned previously, redshirt sophomore Paige Demetriades was the 2018 CSU Spring Break Invitational women's javelin champion, thanks to a personal-best mark of 156-4.

Fellow Pennsylvania native Mackenzie Hainley will make her Lady Flames debut on Saturday. She threw the javelin 140-5 last year at Cocalico High School.

Changing Distances
A number of Liberty runners will begin the outdoor season by competing in events other than their specialty.

Athletes competing in shorter races than usual include Calli Parlier and Heidi Smith in the women's 400, Greer Wilson in the women's 1,500, Ally Kipchirchir and Michael Todd in the men's 400, Felix Kandie and Joe Spitzer in the men's 800 and Nick Doan in the men's 400 hurdles.

Athletes stepping up in distance on Saturday include Alexis Rolan in the women's 400, Cortney Dowling in the women's 800, Delaney McDowell in the women's 1,500 and Jahquez Durham in the men's 800.

Up Next
Liberty will compete in the FSU Relays for the third straight season, March 22 at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla.

The one-day meet will feature a scored competition pitting the Flames against Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
