Lady Flames Dominate Delaware State, 20-0

Liberty built a 19-0 lead after two innings, blanking the visiting Delaware State Hornets 20-0 in five innings on Thursday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.

Liberty (6-6) went 2-0 on the first day of the Liberty Softball Challenge, outscoring Wright State and Delaware State by a combined 30-2. The Lady Flames scored 30 unanswered runs on the day after trailing WSU 2-0 in the top of the first in the opening game this afternoon. The Hornets fall to 1-2 on the season.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty scored a season-high 20 runs on 13 hits, tying a program single-game record with three triples. Both teams committed two errors.

- Liberty's 20 runs are tied for the team's second most in a single game in program history, and most since a 23-0 win over West Virginia State, March 22, 1996.

- Emily Kirby (1-0) picked up the win with two innings of relief during which she allowed one hit and struck out a career-high five batters. Kirby later stole her first career base as a pinch runner. Starter Elizabeth Engler allowed two hits in two innings before Julia DiMartino tossed a 1-2-3 third inning.

- Brianna Baker (1-2) sustained the loss, giving up eight runs on five hits in 1/3 of an inning.

- Liberty's Amber Bishop batted 3-for-3 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBI. Madison Via went 2-for-3 with a triple, homer and a career-high five RBI. Sarah Robertson (2-for-3, double, two RBI) and Alexis Erich (three walks) both scored three runs. Jaclyn Amader batted 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
 

Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty scored nine runs in the first before following with 10 in the second. The Lady Flames' 10 second-inning runs were their most in a single inning since scoring 10 runs in the second inning against Rhode Island, March 9, 2017.

- Liberty's 30 runs scored today set a new program record for runs scored in back-to-back games. The previous record was 29, set March 22 and 23, 1996.

- Freshman Brittany Lew hit a triple in her first career at bat before scoring on a wild pitch in the third inning.

- Autumn Bishop moves into a tie for sixth in program history with 41 career doubles, tying Jessica Moore (2005-07).

- Sarah Robertson entered the program's top 10 in career hits tonight, now ranking 10th with 188 career hits. She also moved into 10th in program history with 108 career RBI. She is one of three players to rank in Liberty's top 10 in hits, runs and RBI, joining Jessica Moore (2005-07) and Kelby Allen (2012-15).

- Amber Bishop is now in sole possession of 13th place in program history with 105 career runs scored.

- Jaclyn Amader became the fifth player in program history with 10 career triples.
