Liberty Downs No. 20 Wake Forest in Home Opener

Left-hander Mason Meyer's strong outing helped propel the Liberty Flames past the No. 20 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 9-3, Tuesday afternoon at Liberty Baseball Stadium.

In Liberty's home opener, Meyer allowed three runs over 7 1/3 innings, earning his first victory in a Liberty Flames' uniform.

Right fielder Ayden Karraker reached base in all four of his at bats. The senior went 2-for-2, walked twice, and drove in three runs for the Flames.

Liberty evens its record at 2-2, while Wake Forest drops to 2-2.

- Karraker posts his first multiple-hit game of the season with two hits. The right fielder lined a base-loaded double down the right field line, driving in three runs, and made a highlight reel catch on a foul ball down the right field line in the fourth inning.

- Freshman center fielder Jaylen Guy recorded his first multi-hit game of his career with two hits. He stole a base and scored three times.

- Liberty drew nine walks and was hit by a pitch three times in the contest. Meanwhile, Wake Forest received only one free pass.

Turning Point
With the bases loaded and two outs and the Flames looking to expand their 4-2 lead, Karraker ripped a liner past the first base bag and down the right field line, plating all three runners and giving Liberty a commanding 7-2 advantage.

Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty has won four consecutive home openers and is 6-1 in home openers since the opening of Liberty Baseball Stadium in 2013.

- Liberty used video replay for the first time in the regular season in program history on Tuesday. The Flames won an important challenge in the third when third baseman Tyler Galazin became the second to score on the same wild pitch. Initially, the runner was called out, but on review, the call was reversed, allowing the Flames to take a 3-2 edge.

- Liberty defeated Wake Forest for the second consecutive matchup at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The two will meet again later this season in Winston-Salem, N.C. on April 16.
