Madison Via went 4-for-4 today against Duke.
Liberty trailed Duke 3-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out. The 22nd-ranked Lady Flames managed to score one run before falling to the Blue Devils 3-1, Saturday at Nancy Almaraz Stadium.
The Lady Flames are now 1-2 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, which concludes tomorrow. Duke improves to 2-1 on the season. Today was the first meeting between the two schools in softball.

The Lady Flames left 13 on base, compared the three for the Blue Devils. During the first, fifth and seventh innings, Liberty left the bases loaded. - Brianna Butler (1-0) earned the win for Duke, allowing five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Amelia Wiercioch pitched a two-out save after relieving Peyton St. George with the bases loaded. - Julia DiMartino (1-1) drew the loss, allowing two runs on one hit in two innings. Freshman Braelyn Cooper pitched five innings in her collegiate debut, allowing one run on four hits and striking out three. - Caroline Jacobsen batted 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI for Duke. - Madison Via (4-for-4, double) and Jaclyn Amader (3-for-4, double) combined to go 7-for-8 at the plate. For the season, Via is batting .667 (6-for-9), and Amader is hitting .636 (7-for-11).
Turning Point - Duke held a 3-0 lead after scoring single tallies in the first, second and fourth.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Liberty rallied with one out, getting singles from Via and Sweat followed by a walk to Robertson. St. George walked in a run before Wiercioch came into the circle.
- Wiercioch got both Rylee Reynolds and Amader to ground into fielder's choices to end the game.
Beyond the Box Score - Liberty is 11-4 against ACC opponents over the last three seasons. - Via set a new career high with four hits today, joining Amader (4-for-4 yesterday against BYU) as Lady Flames with four-hit games this season. Current Lady Flames Deidra See and Autumn Bishop also have four-hit ballgames to their credit in earlier seasons. - Junior Kayla Harris started at catcher, her first start for the Lady Flames since April 26, 2017 at Longwood. Harris transferred to Northwest Florida State College, where she played in 2018 before transferring back to Liberty. Up Next Liberty will wrap up its time at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge tomorrow, taking on No. 18 Baylor at 1 p.m. Eastern time. The Lady Flames will then close out their time in Mexico with a game against defending national runner-up No. 2 Washington at 4 p.m.
