Thoughts From Head Coach Jeff Maren
"We were outplayed today. Hats off to ETSU for playing a great match, start to finish. I don't believe in losing – only learning. So, today we learned a lot! There are areas we can improve upon, and the good thing is that we have a match tomorrow where we can work on getting better. We're looking forward to it already!"

How It Happened

  • The Bucs picked up victories on courts two and three to win the doubles point. Raquel Amaro and Yi Chi Ma (No. 2 doubles) defeated Kalani Soli and Grace Hashiguchi of Liberty 6-3. The Lady Flames' top duo, seniors Lara Soares and Maria Medina, bested ETSU's Laylo Bakhodirova and Alejandra Morales 6-4.
  • It came down to the No. 3 doubles match between Liberty seniors Ashley Bongart and Anna Dollar and the Bucs' Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Yunuen Elizarraras. ETSU's pairing won 6-4, giving the home side a 1-0 edge in the match.
  • Victories on courts two, three and four, in that order, wrapped up the victory for ETSU. Morales got past Medina in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) in the No. 2 match, followed by a two-set triumph from Pascual-Larrinaga (6-4, 6-2) against Soli on court three.
  • Amaro and Bongart played two lengthy sets in the No. 4 bout, with Amaro narrowly take both sets and the match, 7-6 (7), 7-5. The ETSU freshman's victory put an end to contest and made it 4-0, Bucs.
  • The Lady Flames' Soares (No. 1 singles) led Bakhodirova in the third set before her match went unfinished (1-6, 6-3, 5-2, unfinished).
