Muamba is the 104th-ranked singles player in the country.
ITA Men's Singles National Rankings
Nicaise Muamba of the Liberty men's tennis team garnered a national singles ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in its 2018-19 Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Tennis Rankings, this week.
Muamba is the 104th-ranked singles player in the country. The sophomore is the first Flame since Sam Matheson (also No. 104) on May 30, 2018 to be ranked in singles.
"Nicaise will have a lot of opportunity this spring to compete against strong competition. We are excited about his work ethic, professionalism and passion for the game," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt.
Muamba, a native of Laval, Quebec, Canada began his spring 2019 campaign with an impressive straight-sets (6-4, 6-3) victory over No. 21 Adria Soriano Barrera of the Miami Hurricanes, Jan. 18. Soriano Barrera is currently the No. 13 player in the country.
Muamba is one of two ASUN Conference players in the national rankings, along with Kennesaw State's No. 106 Fermin Calvo Barcelo. He holds a 3-3 mark at No. 1 singles, this spring. Muamba leads all Flames players with 13 singles triumphs on the year.
Muamba and the Flames (1-5) will play their home opener against the George Washington Colonials (1-0) on Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. The next set of national rankings (singles and doubles) will be released on Feb. 19.
