Liberty junior infielder Autumn Bishop has been named to the Top 50 Watch List for the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, currently in its 18th season, is given to the top collegiate softball player at the end of each year.

A native of Murrieta, Calif., Bishop is the only ASUN player on the Top 50 Watch List. Earlier this month, the junior was voted the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year.

Two previous recipients of this award, Florida's Kelly Barnhill (2017) and UCLA's Rachel Garcia (2018), highlight the list of 50 NCAA Division I softball players.

The Watch List includes 24 seniors, 16 juniors and 10 sophomores. Athletes on the Watch List represent 36 schools and 15 conferences. Arizona and Washington lead all programs with four players mentioned, while the SEC (13) is the most-represented conference.

The Top 25 finalists for the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced on April 24. While an athlete does not have to be on the Top 50 Watch List to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 finalists. The Top 10 finalists will be announced May 8 and the Top 3 announced May 22. The 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed May 28.

Bishop had a standout sophomore campaign, being named to the NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team for the second year in a row while also earning her second Big South All-Conference first team selection. She batted .265, with a program-record 25 doubles which ranked second in the nation. Bishop also tied for the national lead with a school-record seven sacrifice flies. The first baseman dominated at the Big South Softball Championship, being voted the Big South Tournament MVP.

Liberty begins its 2019 schedule at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Feb. 8-10. The Lady Flames' first conference series will be March 15-16, when they play at defending ASUN champions Kennesaw State.
