Former Liberty University men's soccer midfielder Kevin Mendoza is currently in camp with Los Angles FC after being selected in the 2019 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on January 14.
Before leaving for preseason drills with the team, GAME ON talked with Mendoza about being drafted and his time at Liberty.
A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Mendoza completed his four-year career among the Liberty program leaders in scoring. The midfielder finished eighth with 30 goals and points with 75.
This past fall, Mendoza capped his final year at Liberty by becoming the first Flame to be named to the Atlantic All-Region team since 2012. In addition, for the fourth straight year, the midfielder was voted to an all-conference team in 2018, as he was named to the ASUN All-Conference first team. It was the third consecutive season he earned first team honors. He earned first team All-Big South honors in both 2016 and 2017.
The senior midfielder led the ASUN Conference in points (29), points per game (2.07) and goals per game (0.86), while tying for the conference lead in goals (12) this past season. He also tied for third in the conference in assists (5).
