Former Liberty University men's soccer defender Geovanny Murillo signed today with Carmelita of Liga FPD, the top professional association soccer division in Costa Rica.
Carmelita is based in Barrio El Carmen, Alajuela, Costa Rica and plays its home matches at Rafael Bolaños Stadium in El Coyol, Alajuela, Costa Rica.
A native of San Jose, Costa Rica, Murillo played in 66 games and was among Liberty's starting 11 in 55 of them. During his time with the Flames, the defender became a fixture on the backline, logging over 5,000 minutes. In 2016, Murillo was one of only two Flames to start every game and played 1,640 minutes, the most any Liberty player that season.
Murillo compiled eight assists, including a career-high three in 2018. Also, the lone goal of his career was the game-winning goal in a win at High Point during his freshman year.
