Nick Doan won the men's 3K title, Friday at the Hokie Invitational.

Liberty redshirt junior Nick Doan raced to victory in the men's 3K, providing one of the Flames' most impressive performances on their opening day of the 2019 indoor track & field season, Friday at the Hokie Invitational.

Newcomers also shone brightly for the Flames, as freshmen Anders Janes and Taylen Langin swept the men's and women's pole vault unseeded section titles. Langin was also one of three Lady Flames (along with Chelsea Igberaese in the weight throw and Jada Thomas in the 60 hurdles) to set program freshman records on the day.

2018 NCAA national qualifiers Jovaine Atkinson (men's 60 hurdles) and Alejandro Perlaza Zapata (men's 300) finished second in their respective events in a meet dotted with ACC and SEC competitors. Zapata's 300 time of 34.01 was the Flames' fastest clocking since Willie Parker set the program record of 33.40 in 1987.

Thirteen Liberty athletes punched tickets to compete in Boston in March, including eight women's ECAC qualifiers and five men's IC4A qualifiers.
