Full 2019 Schedule

Coming off its most successful season in program history in 2018, the Liberty women's lacrosse program and head coach Kelly Nangle have released their spring 2019 schedule.

"We are looking forward to an exciting 2019 season! We are excited to compete in the ASUN Conference with tough competition in different regions," Nangle said. "We continue to have a difficult out-of-conference schedule that will challenge us and make us better. We are excited to welcome some quality teams to Lynchburg for the first time. We can't wait to get started!"

Liberty's challenging 2019 slate features seven games against teams which finished in the top 50 of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse RPI in 2018, including their first four opponents of the year.

The Lady Flames, who enjoyed a 13-win season last spring and finished a program-best No. 38 in the RPI and with a 6-1 mark in the Big South, will open their spring slate at Lehigh on Feb. 9. The Mountain Hawks finished No. 29 in the RPI in 2018.

Liberty and Notre Dame (No. 27 RPI) will square off in the Lady Flames' home opener on Feb. 17. Liberty's inaugural ASUN Conference match will be on March 16 at Kennesaw State, with its ASUN home opener slated for March 22 versus Old Dominion.

"We are extremely excited about our inaugural ASUN schedule. It gives us the opportunity to travel to new place and to play in regions that we are currently recruiting from," Nangle stated. "We are looking forward to a competitive conference season. We can't wait to get to work!"

The rest of the Lady Flames' non-conference schedule includes home matchups against Elon (Feb. 23), Richmond (March 2), East Carolina (March 6) and Arizona State (April 12). The Elon Phoenix and Richmond Spiders finished No. 40 and No. 20 in the final RPI in 2018, respectively.

Liberty's out-of-conference away schedule will also feature a contest at former Big South rival Winthrop (Feb. 15) and matches at Robert Morris (Feb. 27) and Furman (March 9). Later in the season on April 17, the Lady Flames will play their final non-conference game at High Point, the 2018 Big South champion and No. 17-ranked team in the country at season's end.

Liberty will also host Stetson (March 24) and Howard (April 26) in ASUN play. The Lady Flames' other ASUN road contests include trips to former Big South rival Coastal Carolina (March 31), two-time defending ASUN champion Jacksonville (April 14) and Kent State (April 24).

Jacksonville has been the ASUN's dominant team in women's lacrosse since the sport's inception in 2013. The Dolphins have stood atop the regular-season standings in five of the six seasons and have captured the ASUN Lacrosse Championship title five times in six years. Jacksonville bested Coastal Carolina in the championship game each of the past two seasons.

Jacksonville has had its share of close calls in opening round games in the NCAA Tournament, but the young conference has yet to produce a win in NCAA postseason play. The Lady Flames (No. 38) finished above the Dolphins (No. 43) in last year's final RPI.

The 2019 ASUN Lacrosse Championship will be hosted at Coastal Carolina's Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C., May 2 and 4. The championship will be a four-team, single elimination tournament.

The top four teams, based on regular season conference standings, will advance to the championship. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, which runs from May 10-26.
