For the second straight week, Liberty's Darius McGhee has been named ASUN Newcomer of the Week. The honor comes after Liberty's first-ever win in the ASUN Conference, defeating Florida Gulf Coast.
McGhee has now been named ASUN Newcomer of the Week four times this season and remains the only player in the conference to receive the honor multiple times. This is the second time this season McGhee has earned the honor in back-to-back weeks.
The freshman from Roxboro, N.C. led Liberty's bench in the win over FGCU scoring 18 points, shooting 66.7 percent from the field. McGhee made a career-high six three-pointers, outscoring FGCU's bench 18-9 by himself. This was the ninth time this season McGhee has made three or more three-pointers in a game. McGhee ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game and ranks No. 47 in the country with 44 three-pointers made this season.
The Flames will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 9, as they travel to face Stetson to wrap up a six-game road trip. Tip-off against the Hatters is set for 7 p.m. and can been seen on ESPN+.
