Moment No. 5 of 2018: Liberty Hires Freeze as Head Football Coach

The 2018 calendar year brought many new opportunities and success for Liberty Flames Athletics.

Liberty Athletics officially joined the ASUN Conference on July 1 after spending the previous 27 years as a member of the Big South Conference. Additionally, the Liberty football program played its inaugural season as an FBS program this fall. 

Liberty Athletics captured seven conference titles in 2018, including: men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field, women's basketball, softball and men's golf.

Over the course of the next two weeks, LibertyFlames.com will showcase the Top 10 Moments of 2018 in Flames Athletics.

The series continues on Christmas Day with the No. 5 moment, Liberty's hiring of Hugh Freeze as the ninth Head Football Coach in the history of the Flames' football program on Dec. 7. Liberty University President Jerry Falwell and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw announced the hiring of Freeze on Dec. 7 at the Carter Tower at Williams Stadium.

Freeze brings over 25 years of continued coaching success to Liberty, including head coaching experience that has led to conference titles, nationally-ranked recruiting classes and bowl appearances at multiple stops during his highly decorated career.
