The 2018 calendar year brought many new opportunities and success for Liberty Flames Athletics.
Liberty Athletics officially joined the ASUN Conference on July 1 after spending the previous 27 years as a member of the Big South Conference. Additionally, the Liberty football program played its inaugural season as an FBS program this fall.
Liberty Athletics captured seven conference titles in 2018, including: men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field, women's basketball, softball and men's golf.
Over the course of the next two weeks, LibertyFlames.com will showcase the Top 10 Moments of 2018 in Flames Athletics.
The series continues on Wednesday with the No. 9 moment. Alicia Finnigan of the Liberty swimming & diving received the prestigious NCAA Elite 90 Award for women's swimming & diving, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. Finnigan was given the award on March 16 in Columbus, Ohio, and is the first Liberty student-athlete in any sport to earn the award since its inception during the 2009-10 academic year.
