Mendoza, Mbuyu Selected to VaSID All-State First Team

Liberty Flames midfielder Kevin Mendoza and forward Tresor Mbuyu have been named to the 2018 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Men's Soccer All-State University Division first team. It is the third time both Flames garnered all-state honors.

Mendoza capped his final year at Liberty by becoming the first Flame to be named to Atlantic All-Region team since 2012, and for the fourth straight year, the midfielder was voted to an all-conference team in 2018. This season, the Mexico City, Mexico native was named to the ASUN All-Conference first team, earning first team honors for the third consecutive season. He earned first team All-Big South honors in both 2016 and 2017.

He completed the year as the national leader in shot accuracy, putting 73 percent of his shot attempts on goal. He also ranked fifth in points per game, sixth in goals per game, 11th in total points and 12th in total goals.

Meanwhile, Mbuyu garnered an all-conference team honor for the third straight year in 2018. The Charlotte, N.C. native has been selected to the first team in each of his three seasons at Liberty.

One of only three Flames to start all 15 Liberty contests this season, Mbuyu tied with teammate Kevin Mendoza for the ASUN lead in goals with 12. The forward finished second in the conference in points with 28. The senior also finished the year second in the conference in points per game (1.87) and goals per game (0.80).
