Major Home Games Highlight 2019 Liberty Softball Schedule

Complete 2019 Softball Schedule

The first visit to Mexico in program history, along with home games against several major opponents, highlight Liberty's 2019 softball schedule, released today by sixth-year Head Coach Dot Richardson.

During the 2019 season, Liberty will face 2018 Women's College World Series competitors UCLA and national finalist Washington. The Lady Flames will also take on NCAA Super Regional participants Tennessee and Texas A&M and NCAA Regional Finalists Baylor, Notre Dame and Ohio. In total, Liberty will face 13 teams in a combined 18 games who qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Among Liberty's 2019 opponents, Washington (No. 2), UCLA (No. 3), Tennessee (No. 10), Texas A&M (No. 13), Baylor (No. 19) and Long Beach State (No. 20) were all ranked in the final NFCA National Poll of 2018.

Liberty will play 25 home games at the 1,000-seat Liberty Softball Stadium. For the second year in a row, the Lady Flames will host two in-season tournaments, including the Liberty Softball Challenge (Feb. 22-24) and Liberty Softball Classic (March 1-3). This season marks the first time that teams from the SEC (Tennessee) and Big Ten (Rutgers) will play at Liberty Softball Stadium, while ACC opponents Pittsburgh and Virginia will also play at Liberty.

As previously announced, Liberty will play 21 conference games in its inaugural season in the ASUN, with three conference home series and four ASUN series on the road.

The Lady Flames will open the season at the prestigious Puerto Vallarta Challenge, held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Feb. 8-10. Liberty will take on 2018 NCAA Tournament participants BYU, Notre Dame, Baylor and Washington along with Duke while in Mexico.

The following weekend, Liberty will travel to College Station, Texas, for a tournament at 2018 NCAA Super Regional participant Texas A&M. The Lady Flames will face Texas A&M and NCAA qualifier McNeese State twice each that weekend.

Liberty will then host the Liberty Softball Challenge from Feb. 22-24, followed by the Liberty Softball Classic from March 1-3, giving Lynchburg softball fans 10 chances to get an early look at the team.

The Lady Flames close out tournament play in California, competing in the UCLA/Long Beach State Invitational. While in the Golden State, Liberty will face NCAA Tournament teams Long Beach State, Boston University, UCLA and Ohio.

The remaining non-conference schedule for March features a single home contest versus Pitt (March 13), a doubleheader against Tennessee at Liberty Softball Stadium (March 19) and a game at Duke (March 27).

Liberty opens ASUN play March 15-16 by traveling to compete at defending ASUN champion Kennesaw State. The Lady Flames will also have conference series at FGCU (March 30-31), North Florida (April 13-14) and North Alabama (April 27-28).

The team's home conference opponents will be: Lipscomb (March 23-24), Stetson (April 6-7) and Jacksonville (April 19-20).

April begins with a visit from Virginia on April 2, while Liberty plays at 2018 NCAA Tournament competitor James Madison the following night. The Lady Flames also travel to play at ACC foes North Carolina (April 10) and Virginia (April 16).

Liberty hosts former Big South rivals Radford (April 23) and Longwood (May 5) to wrap up the regular-season home schedule.

The top six teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season will compete in the 2019 ASUN Softball Championship, hosted by FGCU, from May 8-11. The ASUN champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, which will begin the weekend of May 19.
