For the second straight week, Liberty's Darius McGhee was named the ASUN Conference Newcomer of the Week. The honor comes after McGhee averaged 12.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game this past week.
Coming off the bench, McGhee led Liberty in scoring to start the week with a career-high 18 points in the win against Navy. McGhee was hot from three-point range, shooting 50 percent (5-10) from beyond the arc against the Midshipmen.
To improve to 7-1 for the first time since 1991, McGhee helped Liberty defeat Georgia State, who has already beaten ETSU, Mercer, St. Bonaventure and Georgia this season. The native of Roxboro, N.C. would score six points but grabbed a career-high five rebounds in the win over the Panthers. For the week, McGhee shot 44.4 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from three-point range.
This season, McGhee ranks second among all ASUN freshmen in scoring at 11.5 PPG. He also is tied for the ASUN lead in three-pointers made per game at 2.6 and is sixth in the league in three-point percentage with a mark of 36.8 percent.
McGhee and the Flames will be back on the court this week starting on Monday, Dec. 3, when they travel face Georgetown. The game can be seen on FS2 and will be played at Capital One Arena.
