Wedemeyer Welcomes Nine Newcomers to Class of 2019

Lang Wedemeyer and Liberty women's soccer announced eight newcomers on National Signing Day, Wednesday.

Nicole Crutchfield | Forward | Durham, N.C. | North Carolina

Crutchfield will be a wealth of experience to Liberty's program, as she is transferring from North Carolina, who just competed in the National Championship game against Florida State. During her time with the Tar Heels, Crutchfield competed in 19 career matches, recording two assists. Crutchfield was named to the 2016-17 ACC Academic Honor Roll. In her high school career at Northern high school, Crutchfield scored 94 goals and in her junior season she led the PAC-6 Conference with 96 points and was recognized as the PAC-6 Player of the Year.

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "We are super excited to have Nicole joining our program for the Fall of 2019. Although she will only have one year of eligibility, bringing a player in from a program like UNC will be great for our team's competitive nature."

Rebekah Earnest | Midfielder | Reading, Pa.

As a multi-sport athlete, Earnest excelled on the soccer pitch as well as on the court playing basketball and also competing in track. Playing for Fleetwood Area high school and coach Mike Boyer, she was a difference maker in the midfield, scoring 39 goals along with 22 assists throughout her career. Earnest is a proven winner as she has led Fleetwood Area to an 81-11-4 record throughout her four years as well as three straight Division Championships. Earnest is a two-time All-County midfielder selection and has led her school to the Pennsylvania State Semifinals twice.

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Bekah is an athletic, skillful playmaker that can deliver crunching tackles as well as deliver textured passes. She is great in the air and truly has a passion for the game."

Rebekah Earnest HS Coach | Mike Boyer: "Rebekah is a strong versatile player with the ability to play in numerous positions. Her tremendous work rate puts her opponents under constant pressure. Rebekah's quickness in the midfield enables her to win a lot of balls and quickly start a counter attack."

Rebekah Earnest Club Coach | Eric Franks: "Rebekah is a hard-working, talented, and passionate player! She demonstrates a very determined/driven attitude every time she steps on the field! I'm very proud to have had the opportunity to coach Rebekah, and I'm confident she will enjoy and succeed at Liberty University. I'm excited for Rebekah's future, and wish her and her Liberty University Women's Soccer Team the very best!"

Erin Jones | Goalkeeper | Fredericksburg, Va.

A product from Fredericksburg Christian School, Jones was one of the best goalkeepers in the state of Virginia, where he was a three-time DAC All-Conference selection from 2014-17. A three-year captain for Fredericksburg, Jones was a two-time MVP for the Eagles and was named the 2016 DAC Player of the Year. Jones was also a U.S. Soccer Training Center Camp invitee.

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Erin is an athletic keeper who is just as good with her feet as she is with her hands. Playing in the field with her HS team has given her an added skill of being as comfortable on the ball as any field player."

Erin Jones Club Coach | Ken Krieger: "Erin Jones Is one of the top goalkeepers I have ever worked with, totally dedicated to her skills, and when in goal is in control with organizing the defense and constantly communicating in every moment of the game to make sure her teammates are always aware of any danger in and around the penalty area!"

Sonia Meyer | Forward | Stillwater, Minn.

Playing for Mahtomedi high school, Meyer was a 2017 Minnesota State All-Tournament Team honoree while her team claimed the Minnesota State Class A championship. While playing club soccer for Sporting St. Croix and WBSC Black Scorpion, Meyer played against some elite competition and won titles at the 2018 TCSL Winter, the 2018 President's Cup and at the 2018 Disney Showcase. In addition to her nine titles won in club soccer, Meyer also placed third in the U.S. Club Nationals and finished second overall in points scored at the 2015 CASL in North Carolina.

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Sonia is another very versatile player that can play in any number of roles for us. She is skillful on the ball and has great vision that allows her to break open defenses with quality combination play."

Sonia Meyer Club Coach | Dickie Vilme: "Sonia Meyer is a versatile striker who is equally comfortable scoring with her feet or head as well as setting up her teammates. The bigger the game the better she plays which is evident in her leading her team to two state tournaments and a state championship."

Lily Poff | Defender | Roanoke, Va.

Playing for Hidden Valley high school and VBR Star, Poff was a part of the Olympic Development Program District Team from 2013-16 and was a three-time Region I State Team selection. Poff has competed in the Virginia State Cup Tournament for the last three seasons and has competed in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition to soccer, Poff has also volunteered at the Special Olympics and the Roanoke Rescue Mission.   

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Lily is a rock-steady center back who works tirelessly, organizes well, and tackles hard. She has the ability to make those around her better with her communication and selfless play."

Lily Poff Club Coach | Chris McClellan: "VBR Star is excited for Lily to join the Liberty University Women's soccer program. We look forward to seeing her take on new challenges at the Division I level. Her character, work ethic and desire to grow as a young adult and soccer player will be a great addition to the program."

Lily Poff HS Coach | Cory Carroll: "Lily Poff's passion for the game and dedication to her team is unmatched. Her desire to grow and work ethic show through in her leadership on and off the field. Her talent, leadership and unending encouragement are attributes the Titans will come to miss after this season."

Grace Spade | Midfielder | Virginia Beach, Va.

Playing at Ocean Lakes high school, Spade was a four-year starter and a four-year letter winner for the Dolphins. For the last two seasons, Spade has served as a leader for Ocean Lakes as she was named team captain. Spade was a State Cup semifinalist and was named to the All-Atlantic Region Team and was named the Physical Education Student of the Year. A two-sport athlete, Spade also played basketball where she was a four-year starter.

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Grace is first and foremost a competitor.  Her drive and intensity are evident on the field as she leads from midfield with her consistent effort and relentless work ethic and skill."

Grace Spade Club Coach | Hershel Mack: "It has been an honor and a blessing to coach Grace Spade.  She is a young lady that only knows one speed, which is all out all the time.  I had the opportunity to coach Grace Spade in her second sport, basketball.  Even though basketball isn't her first love, she always played with all her heart.  She has a competitive nature that is contagious, and I believe her presence makes any team she plays on much better." 

Favour Spear | Forward | Charlotte, N.C.

Paying for Gaston Christian, Spear was a four-year starter and named the team's Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017. As a scoring threat in front of goal, Spear was named the 2016 Gaston County Girls Cup Offensive MVP and was an All-State selection.

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Favour is lightning fast with a nose for goal. Her speed and quickness are always a threat when she gets faced up. She is a scoring threat every time she is on the ball."

Favour Spear HS Coach | Justin Huitt: "I am thrilled for Favour, and for Liberty University. What a great fit! Favour has worked extremely hard to excel in the sport she loves, and it has paid off. She has earned an opportunity to get a great education, at a fantastic university, and play for a top notch soccer program! Very well deserved opportunity. With its offer to Favour Spear, Liberty University has landed an incredible student-athlete. Favour is disciplined, focused, determined, and has a great work ethic, which helps her excel both in the classroom and on the field. Favour Spear is an incredible addition to the university, and its women's soccer program. I look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for Favour through this opportunity."

Savanna Wortman | Midfielder | Atlanta, Ga.

Competing at Brookwood high school and playing for coach Chad Carrithers, Wortman was a three-year letter winner and a two-year starter. Wortman played in some prestigious tournaments where she was an ECNL Final Four finisher and a SPL Champion.   

Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Savanna can play up front or in the midfield. She is a feisty player that relentlessly hunts down the ball, but is composed enough to use savvy and guile to beat defenders and score goals."

Savanna Wortman Club Coach | Gregg Blasingame: "Savanna has a lot of heart on the field and always gives 100 percent to the game and her team. She has excellent field vision, technical ability and precise distribution skills. She is a joy to coach and an important player for us."
