The weather could be unsettled on Friday in Blacksburg, with a 90 percent chance of thunderstorms and a high in the low 60s.

Who is Competing?
Freshman Jacob Underwood is Liberty's lone entrant in Friday's men's 6K. He will be the first Liberty men's runner to compete at this meet since Jacob Onifer in 2013.

Meanwhile, eight Lady Flames will contest the 4K, including juniors Natalee Cole and Anna Van Wyk and freshmen Jamie Anderson, Naomi Bowser, Rebekah Leone, Madison MacPherson, Jessica Rogers and Heidi Smith.

Checking Out the Course
Liberty will be visiting Blacksburg for the second time this season, after opening the year at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Aug. 31.

Naomi Bowser served as the Lady Flames' No. 7 runner that evening with a 17th-place finish and a 4K clocking of 15:18.1. Competing unattached, Jacob Underwood placed 33rd in the men's 6K at 19:52.3.

All of the Flames' entrants in the Hokie Open except Natalee Cole have previously raced at Virginia Tech's course.

This is the 12th straight year that Liberty has competed in at least one meet at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.

Looking Back at Last Year
Liberty captured the 2017 Hokie Open women's team title by nine points (24-33) over runner-up UNCG. Erin Hansel led the way with a fourth-place individual finish. None of the five Lady Flames who competed in Blacksburg that day will be in action on Friday.

Fabulous Freshmen
Eight of Liberty's 10 runners slated to race on Friday are freshmen. The Flames and Lady Flames have gotten major contributions from freshmen this fall.

At last weekend's ASUN Cross Country Championships, Calli Parlier was named ASUN Women's Freshman of the Year. Fellow rookies Emma Bower, Felix Kandie and Paul Squires also earned ASUN All-Freshman Team recognition.

Jacob Underwood crossed the line 26th in the ASUN men's 8K, clocking 26:26.3 to serve as runner-up Liberty's No. 7 runner and the sixth fastest freshman in the field.

In the ASUN women's 5K, Naomi Bowser (29th place, 19:35.6) and Jamie Anderson (33rd place, 19:43.6) both finished among the top half of the 70-runner field.
