No. 35 Liberty weathered windy playing conditions and tough pin placements to finish the 2018 Grandover Collegiate in second place.
The Flames carded the second-best final round in the UNCG-hosted event with a 7-over par 295 during Sunday's blustery 18 holes of action. Liberty finished the event with an overall 15-over par 879 (295-289-295) on the Grandover Resort – East Course (par 72, 7,245 yards).
Liberty's strong finish on Sunday allowed the Flames to climb two spots up the leaderboard to finish as a runner-up to UNCG.
The weekend event marked the final tournament of Liberty's four-event fall schedule. The Flames will return to action on Feb. 4-5 when they participate in the Sea Best Invitational at the TPC Sawgrass – Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Field Reflections: • Home course advantage helped the UNCG Spartans claim the title at their own home event, winning the event by 10 strokes over Liberty with a winning score of 5-over par 869 (289-282-298). • Only three teams in the 12-team field managed to post a team score in the single-digit over-par range on Sunday: Mercer (6-over par 294), Liberty (7-over par 295) and Virginia Tech (9-over par 297). All other team scores were double-digits over par. • Liberty, ranked No. 35 in the Golfstat national rankings, was the top ranked team in the field as all of No. 3 Duke's golfers competed as individuals.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes: • Liberty led the 12-team field in pars, finishing 56 holes of play with 169 pars. Ervin Chang led the Flames with 41 pars during the weekend event. • Ervin Chang tied for the second-lowest individual round on Sunday, carding a 3-under par 69. The marked his second sub-70 round of the fall season and secured his third career top-five finish with a 2-under par 214 (74-71-69). • Gabe Lench finished the even tied for 10th with a 2-over par 218 (72-74-72). The score allowed the senior to finish the fall with a 71.92 scoring average, the eighth-best fall scoring averaging in program history. • Liberty finishes the fall season with 289.83 team scoring average, the second-best mark in school history (program record was a 283.07 in 2016). • Kieran Vincent finished the event tied for tied for eighth place with a 1-over par 217 (74-69-74). The result marked his fifth career top-10 finish and his first since a runner-up finish in the 2017 Big South Men's Golf Championship for the golfer who missed the 2017-18 season due to an injury.
