No. 18 Liberty Earns No. 2 Seed for BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship

Liberty is the No. 2 seed for the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.

Liberty is the No. 2 seed for the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.

No. 18 Liberty will be the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2018 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship. The league office announced the four-team BIG EAST Tournament field on Saturday morning.

The 2018 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship will be contested at the Liberty Field Hockey Field for the first time ever.

The Lady Flames closed the regular season with a 12-5 overall record and 6-1 BIG EAST mark. The six conference victories are their most since joining the league as an affiliate member in 2016. earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of a 4-0 victory at Providence on Friday night. The Lady Flames are the No. 2 seed in the tournament for a third straight year.

Second-seeded Liberty will meet the No. 3 seed Providence Friars (11-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) in  a rematch, next Friday at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed UConn (15-3, 7-0 BIG EAST), the conference's regular season champion and No. 4 team in the country, will square off with No. 4 seed Villanova (9-8, 4-3 BIG EAST) in the other semifinal, Friday at 1 p.m. The title game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.

All BIG EAST Championship games will be carried live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via Fox Sports Go.

Liberty is 2-1 overall against the tournament field. The Lady Flames have defeated Providence and Villanova and have lost to UConn.  

Old Dominion (10-6, 3-4 BIG EAST), Georgetown (11-7, 2-5 BIG EAST), Quinnipiac (5-10, 2-5 BIG EAST) and Temple (2-15, 0-7 BIG EAST) did not qualify for this year's championship.
