Muamba reached the singles round of 16 in his first trip to the ITA Atlantic Regional with the Liberty men's tennis team.
Liberty concluded its run at the ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia Tech on Sunday morning at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Flames' Eddie Gutierrez and Nicaise Muamba both lost their respective matches in the round of 16 of the singles main draw.
Liberty picked up 15 singles victories and four doubles wins during its four days at the event.
"We have a lot of good information and video from this weekend and two-and-a-half weeks to prepare for our next event," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt. "We are looking forward to the team matches coming up this January. It's important for us to stay hungry and stay humble and put in the work over the next few months."
Gutierrez met Old Dominion's Aziz Kijametovic, the No. 3 overall seed, in the round of 16. Kijametovic prevailed in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) and then won another match to reach the semifinals. After winning three of his four singles bouts at the tournament, Gutierrez now has seven singles victories, this fall.
Muamba battled against Gianni Ross of Virginia, the No. 4 overall seed. Ross came out on top, 7-6 (0), 6-4. The Liberty sophomore went 2-1 in singles during the regional and is now 8-4 in his first fall campaign with the Flames.
The tournament will wrap up on Monday with the singles semifinals, singles final and doubles final. The Flames will be back in action at two different tournaments, Nov. 9-11. Half of the team will travel to Austin, Texas, for the University of Texas Invitational, while the rest of the squad will compete at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
