Strong continued play on Tuesday allowed Alexandre Fuchs and Gabe Lench to share individual medalist honors and lead to the Flames to a team title at the 2018 Intercollegiate at the Grove.
Liberty captured its 29th team title at the NCAA Division I level by firing a winning score of 15-under par 849 (290-277-282) at The Grove Club (par 72, 7,368 yards).
The Flames had the best closing round at the Middle Tennessee hosted event, carding a 6-under par 282 on Tuesday. The strong final round allowed Liberty to finish three shots clear of South Florida's 12-under par 852 (284-280-288) and four shots ahead of Purdue's 11-under par 853 (294-274-285).

Field Reflections: • Four teams in the 13-team field finished the event with an under-par score: Liberty (15-under par 849), South Florida (12-under par 852), Purdue (11-under par 853) and Louisville (4-under par 860). • The remaining teams in the field finished the event a combined 250-over par, including fellow ASUN Conference member Kennesaw State, who finishing in sixth place with a 7-over par 871 (283-288-300). • Liberty excelled during the event on the par-3 holes, finishing the event a combined 12-under par on the par-3 holes (2.80 average score).
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes: • Alexandre Fuchs and Gabe Lench became the first Flames to claim individual medalist honors since Ervin Chang won in a playoff at the Sea Best Invitational, Feb. 6, 2018. • Kieran Vincent paced Liberty's efforts during the final round, carding a 4-under par 68, his lowest 18-hole total since a 7-under par 65 during the final round of the 2017 Big South Men's Golf Championship on April 22. • Zach Barbin finished the tournament with 40 pars, tying for the lead in the statistical category with Purdue's Joe Weiler. • Zach Barbin also recorded a hole-in-one on the par 3, No. 3 hole (210 yards), striking the impressive shot while battling 15 MPH wind gusts. • The Flames played the Intercollegiate at The Grove without the services of junior Ervin Chang, who led the Flames in 2017-18 with six top-10 finishes and a 72.15 stroke average. • Thanks to his strong amateur play during the summer, Chang qualified for the 2018 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, Oct. 4-7, 2018, in Singapore, China. • Chang finished the event in seventh place with a 7-under par 273 (72-69-68-64), closing with the event's low final round and finishing six shots out of the overall lead on Sunday. Takumi Kanaya claimed the individual victory, earning a place at the 2019 Masters and Open Championship.
