No. 20 Liberty Set to Host Quinnipiac, No. 21 Wake Forest on Friday and Sunday

No. 20 Liberty will face BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a non-conference bout on Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 21 Wake Forest. Both contests will be played at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.

The Lady Flames (7-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) enter the weekend on a four-match winning streak, their longest streak since 2015. They defeated Temple 8-2 on Tuesday at home.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats (4-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) have won two of their last three games, including a 2-1 conference win over Georgetown, last Friday. They most recently fell 5-1 to UMass Lowell on the road, last Sunday.

The 21st-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-4, 1-1 ACC) have won four straight games. They bested No. 7 Louisville 4-2 last Friday at home and Richmond 4-0 on Sunday on the road.

Series History
Liberty is 1-1 in the all-time series with Quinnipiac. The Bobcats took the last meeting on their home turf by a 1-0 count on Sept. 22, 2017. The Lady Flames won the first-ever match between the two teams by a 6-1 score on Sept. 23, 2016.

Liberty has only defeated Wake Forest once in six tries. That victory was a 2-1 win on Sept. 19, 2014, at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. The Demon Deacons edged the Lady Flames 4-3 on their home turf last year in Winston-Salem, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2017).

 

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • Following their impressive eight-goal performance on Tuesday versus Temple, the Lady Flames are now No. 3 in the country in scoring average (4.10), No. 4 in goals per game (4.11), No. 5 in scoring margin (2.66), No. 6 in points per game (11.44) and No. 8 in assists per game (3.22).
  • Senior forward/midfielder Agueda Moroni is now the national leader in points per game (4.44) and checks in at second in DI in goals per game (1.78) and third in assists per game (0.89). She has 16 goals, eight assists and 40 points in only nine contests.
  • The Lady Flames are 12-2 all-time in BIG EAST regular season games.
  • Liberty is No. 23 in the newest NCAA Field Hockey RPI listing. Wake Forest is No. 24 in the RPI, and Quinnipiac is No. 29.
  • The Lady Flames have scored quickly in each of the last two games. Against Temple on Tuesday, senior Moniek van Aarle scored just 1:02 into the contest, the third-fastest goal in program history. Last Sunday at Lafayette, Moroni found the back of the goal at the 1:35 mark, the fourth-fastest goal in school history.
  • A trio of freshmen - Alivia Klopp, Kemy Meidane and Charlotte Vaanhold - have made significant contributions on the offensive end in their first years. Klopp leads all freshmen with four goals and nine points, while Meidane has a pair of goals, three assists and seven points. Vaanhold, who scored twice in Tuesday's victory, has six points on the season.
