Flames Take 8th Place at Shoal Creek Invitational

Despite tying for the best final round of the 2018 Shoal Creek Invitational, the Flames were unable to make a move up the leaderboard on Tuesday and finished the event in eighth place.

The Flames closed the UAB-hosted tournament with a 3-over par 291. The final round score matched the last round of tournament champion Texas A&M during the team's final trip around the Shoal Creek Country Club (par 72, 7,300 yards).

Liberty finished the two-day event with a 15-over 879 (298-290-291), closing out the Flames' second event of their four-tournament fall schedule.

The Flames return to action in two weeks when they travel to College Grove, Tenn., to participate in the 2018 Franklin America Mortgage Intercollegiate. Middle Tennessee State hosts the tournament at The Grove Club, Oct. 7-9.

Field Reflections:
• Second round play resumed during the morning at 8:30 a.m. (CST) after the conclusion of yesterday's round was postponed due to inclement weather (thunderstorms/lightning).
• Texas A&M was the only team in the 14-team field to finish the 54-hole event with an under-par team total. The Aggies posted a winning score of 8-under par 856 (288-277-291).
• North Florida, one of three other ASUN Conference teams in the field, finished nine strokes behind Texas A&M for second place with a 1-over par 865 (284-289-292).
• Liberty's other new ASUN Conference foe in the field included Kennesaw State and Lipscomb. Kennesaw State finished tied for fifth place with a 12-over par 876 (288-293-295) and Lipscomb finished in 14th place with a 60-over par 924 (304-315-305).

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• Gabe Lench opened the event with a 2-under par 70, his first round at par or better this year and the 40th of his career at Liberty.
• Gabe Lench finished the event tied for fourth in the 87-man field with 12 birdies, while Kieran Vincent finished ninth with 11 birdies.• Zach Bardin, who competed in the event as an individual, ranked tied for second with 39 pars. The sophomore finished tied for 14th place, matching the best tournament finish of his collegiate career.
