Liberty Drops Match at James Madison

Liberty women's soccer concluded with its non-conference schedule with a loss at James Madison. The Lady Flames end non-conference with a 1-7 record while JMU improves to 2-6.

Scoring Summary

58' – JAMES MADISON – Ginger Deel (Assists by Morgan Sherman and Haley Crawford)

Turning Point

Liberty struggled to produce an offensive attack all night and the Dukes took advantage. James Madison controlled possession for a majority of the game and early in the second half, Deel's jumping header proved to be the difference maker.

Key Stats & Notes

  • James Madison outshot Liberty 14-1 throughout the game.

  • Melody Jayroe made five saves on the night in goal.

  • Freshman Avery Belk made her first collegiate start in the midfield.

  • This was Liberty's seventh different starting lineup in the eight non-conference games this season.

  • Both teams combined for 23 fouls (12 on Liberty and 11 on JMU).

Thoughts from Coach Wedemeyer

"That was probably the most physical game of the season. We talked about the players giving more effort tonight and they certainly played harder. It has been a tough non-conference season, but hopefully it has prepared us for ASUN play."

Up Next

Liberty will begin conference play next week as they embark on its first season in the ASUN Conference. The Lady Flames will travel to Kennesaw State on Friday, Sept. 21.
