Flames Remain at No. 7 in Southeast Region

The Liberty men's cross country team remains at No. 7 in the first NCAA Southeast Region rankings of the regular season, as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Flames opened their 2018 season with a first-place team finish at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Aug. 31. Individual champion Azaria Kirwa, third-place Augostine Lisoreng and fourth-place Felix Kandie led the way for Liberty, which totaled just 29 points as a team.

Liberty is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, when the Flames and Lady Flames travel to Rock Hill, S.C., for the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. The men's 8K is scheduled for 9:15 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 10 a.m.

The Liberty men's squad will have the opportunity to square off against several other teams appearing in this week's Southeast Region rankings, including Eastern Kentucky (No. 8), Wake Forest (No. 10), Duke (No. 12) and Clemson (No. 13).
