Defender Brittany Tyson was one of two Lady Flames named to the VaSID All-State Women's Soccer second team.
Liberty Lady Flames Amy Oberlin and Brittany Tyson have been selected to the 2007 VaSID All-State University Division Women's Soccer second team in voting conducted by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The all-state team honors the best Division I women's soccer players in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Oberlin (Ada, Mich.) garners her second all-state selection after being named to the all-state squad in 2006. The midfielder was selected to the second-straight All-Big South first team this past season after leading Liberty with six goals and 12 points. In addition, Oberlin was honored with a selection to the 2007 Big South All-Academic team for her efforts in the classroom, as well as on the soccer field.
After being named to the Big South all-conference first team for the first time this past season, defender Tyson (Souderton, Pa.) receives her first all-state mention. This past season, the defender scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Lady Flames. Moving from left side defender to a center defender this year, the junior provided steady play for the Lady Flames throughout the 2007 season.
Three-time All-American defender Becky Sauerbrunn of Virginia was selected the VaSID Women's Soccer Player of the Year, while James Madison's Dave Lombardo was named the Coach of the Year. Sauerbrunn's Virginia teammate Chantel Jones, a goalkeeper, garnered the state's Rookie of the Year honor.
