Liberty senior Azaria Kirwa has been honored as ASUN Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, thanks to his individual victory at Friday's season-opening Virginia Tech Invitational.

Kirwa covered the 6K course in 18:32.8, topping the field of 90 men's runners. The 2017 All-American earned the second cross country individual title of his career, to go along with the 2017 Liberty Big South Preview crown.

One of three Flames to finish inside the top four of Friday's race, Kirwa helped Liberty win the men's team title by 14 points (29-43) over Charleston (W.Va.).

This is the third cross country weekly award of Kirwa's career. The native of Eldoret, Kenya was previously recognized as Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 9, 2015 and Oct. 4, 2017.

Kirwa and the Flames will next compete at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational, Sept. 15 in Rock Hill, S.C. The men's 8K will begin at 9:15 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 10 a.m.
