Aaron Peart was one of Liberty's three Player of the Week honorees following the Flames' win over Old Dominion.
Three players who played a large role in Liberty's 52-10 win over Old Dominion, last Saturday night where honored when they were named Liberty Football Players of the Week.
The Flames' coaching staff named wide receiver DJ Stubbs the team's Offensive Player of the Week, while safety Elijah Benton was named Defensive Player of the Week and kicker Aaron Peart was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Last Saturday, Liberty scored 38-unanswered points during the second half to pull away from in-state foe Old Dominion. The win gave the Flames their first victory at the FBS level and marked the program's first-ever victory over a Conference USA opponent.
Offensive Player of the Week DJ Stubbs – WR, So., 5-9, 185, Jacksonville, Fla. Stats: 7 receptions, 155 yards, 1 TD • Career high in receptions and receiving yards • 35-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter was the first of his career • 56th player in school history with a 100-yard receiving game • 35th time in school history a receiver has finished a game with 150 or more yards
Defensive Player of the Week Elijah Benton – S, R-Jr., 6-1, 205, Forest, Va. Stats: 8 tackles (3 solo, 5 assisted), 1 pass breakup • Matched a career high (also recorded eight stops against Gardner-Webb on Oct. 28, 2017) • Tied for team high tackling honors with fellow safety Isaac Steele • His pass breakup stopped a drive in the fourth quarter, as he broke up a pass on a fourth-and-one play with 12:52 left to play in the game
Special Teams of the Week Aaron Peart – K, R-Jr., 6-2, 200, Purcellville, Va. Stats: 10 points, 7-of-7 on PATs, 1 field goal (20 yards) • In his first game at Liberty, Peart was one of three Flames to finish the game scoring 10 or more points • Started in his first career game with the Flames after he was named the starter in place of the injured K Alex Probert • Knocked down all seven of his extra point attempts and added a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter • Also had six kickoffs for 358 yards (59.7 yards per kick), including two resulting in a touchback
