Liberty earned its first sweep of the season, downing previously unbeaten Houston Baptist in straight sets (25-18, 27-25, 25-18) on Friday at Rice's Tudor Fieldhouse.

With the win, Liberty (2-3) evened its record to 1-1 at this weekend's Rice Adidas Invitational I. Houston Baptist falls to 4-1 on the season following its first loss of 2018.

Notable Numbers
• Liberty hit a season-best .280 on the afternoon, compared to .178 for Houston Baptist. The Lady Flames also served up a season-high 10 aces while HBU had three aces.

• Liberty's Victoria Baptista led her team with nine kills (tied with Amelia Johnson), 12 digs and a career-high-tying three service aces.

• Hannah Morris dished out a match-high 31 assists, while Anna Gragg hit .667 with eight kills to go with three blocks.

• Houston Baptist's Mikayla Vivens recorded a match-high 11 kills and 11 digs.

Match Summary
SET 1
• Liberty built an insurmountable lead in set one, leading by as many as eight points at 20-12 and again at 21-13 on the way to a 25-18 victory.

• The Lady Flames outhit the Huskies, .353-.241, in the opening set. HBU's Kelly Colwell led all players with six kills, followed by Gragg's five kills.

SET 2
• Houston Baptist led Liberty 24-20 during the second set. Three HBU errors helped Liberty come back to tie it at 24-24. After a Huskies sideout, Liberty knotted it at 25-all. Latchford then served up an ace, and Amelia Johnson's kill sealed the 27-25 win for the Lady Flames.  

• Liberty hit .206 in set two, compared to .182 for Houston Baptist. The Lady Flames served up four aces.  

SET 3
• Liberty broke open a tight third set, going on an 11-4 run to take a 22-15 lead. HBU attempted to come back, but ran out of time as Baptista scored the match-clinching kill, 25-18.

• The Lady Flames kept the Huskies off-balance, with four aces and three blocks, outhitting their opponent, .303-.074.

Quick Hits
• Liberty's set two comeback marked the most consecutive set points that the Lady Flames have fought off since they trailed Campbell 24-20 before rallying to win set two 30-28, a match that also ended in a 3-0 sweep for Liberty on Nov. 3, 2012 in Buies Creek, N.C.

• Baptista is the first Liberty player since 2010 to record double-digit digs in each of the first five matches of a season, when Karyl Bacon opened the year with five straight 10+-digs matches and Kelly Haseman had 10 or more digs in seven straight matches.

• Liberty's 10 aces on Friday were the most by the Lady Flames since they served up 12 aces at Gardner-Webb, Oct. 22, 2016.
