Flames men's tennis sophomore Nicaise Muamba will be the first Liberty player to compete, this fall, when he opens his season at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Canada F6 Futures. The ITF completion will be held at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, beginning on Saturday.
"Nicaise has had a great week of training, and we're excited to see how he does this weekend up in Niagara Falls," said Liberty Men's Tennis Assistant Coach Beck Pennington.
Muamba, a transfer from Tennessee, hails from Laval, Quebec, Canada. He will be entered in the singles qualifying draw (64 players), which will be contested on Saturday and Sunday. Muamba will need to win three matches to reach the singles main draw. The singles qualifying draw will be released on Friday evening.
The singles main draw will kick off on Monday and run through Sept. 9. The entire tournament will be held at the Club at White Oaks.
Over the summer, Muamba played in three challenger events and one futures tournament. Muamba's most impressive result was a three-set (7-5, 2-6, 6-4) victory over Jack Mingjie Lin. Mingjie Lin was ranked as high as No. 104 in the country in singles for the Columbia Lions and also advanced to the NCAA Doubles Tournament later in the spring.
