Lady Flames senior field hockey player Agueda Moroni has been named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Offensive Player of the Week. It was announced on Wednesday morning by the NFHCA.
Moroni, also the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this week, earns the national player of the week recognition for the first time in her career. The Argentina native tallied 11 points (four goals, three assists) on the opening weekend of play on the road against top 25 teams, No. 17 James Madison and No. 3 Duke.
She currently ranks second in the country in points per game (5.50), third in goals per contest (2.00) and fourth in assists per match (1.50) for a high-powered Lady Flames offense that currently checks in at No. 3 in DI in goals per game (4.50), No. 4 in points per match (13.00) and No. 5 in assists per contest (4.00)
The midfielder/forward scored three goals and chipped in two assists in Liberty's convincing 6-1 triumph at No. 17 James Madison, last Friday evening. With the hat trick, she became the first player in program history to score three goals in a game three separate times during her career.
On Sunday at Duke, Moroni scored a second half goal and assisted on a second half marker, helping the Lady Flames eliminate a two-goal deficit and force an extra session against the third-ranked Blue Devils. Moroni is now fourth in program history with 33 goals in just 39 career matches and sixth in school history with 80 points.
Moroni and the No. 23 Lady Flames (1-1) will face another pair of road tests, this weekend. Liberty will face Kent State (0-2) on Friday afternoon and Ohio (0-2) on Sunday afternoon.
